Cap Ducato

Kavos Kiras is located at the southwestern tip of Lefkada at the end of a long until recently unpaved, but now paved road. According to legend, the poetess Sappho leaped to her death from this cliff around 580 BC, following her unrequited love for Faonas (Phaon). By this time, the Cap was sacred to Apollo, protecor of the seafarer, god of purification and healing. On the site of the ancient temple stands the church of St Nicholas (17th c.). Unfortunately, visitors can not find any vestiges of the Apollo’s temple, because at this verry place soars the lighthouse.

The lighthouse was built in 1890 on this white limestone cliff. The height of the tower is 14 metres and the focal height of 70 metres.
